ALGASL and VNG International Host Workshop on Disaster Preparedness and Resilience Planning

Hargeisa, Somaliland

February 26–27, 2025 – The Association of Local Government Authorities of Somaliland (ALGASL), in partnership with VNG International, convened a two-day workshop to bring together key stakeholders and strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience planning at the district level.

The workshop served as a platform for local government leaders, technical experts, and disaster risk management practitioners to engage in meaningful dialogue on building safer, more resilient communities. Discussions centered on strategic planning, enhanced collaboration, and improved response mechanisms to reduce risks and safeguard vulnerable populations.

Throughout the two-day session, participants reviewed priority areas for disaster risk management (DRM) and identified practical steps to strengthen municipal preparedness and coordination. The workshop also emphasized the importance of evidence-based decision-making, community engagement, and multi-stakeholder partnerships to effectively mitigate and respond to disasters.

By the conclusion of the workshop, a framework for an annual DRM action plan was established, reinforcing ALGASL and VNG International’s commitment to supporting Somaliland’s local governments in building institutional capacity, promoting risk reduction strategies, and fostering resilience at the community level.
