About ALGASL

ALGASL

The Association of Local Government Authorities of Somaliland (ALGASL) is a nonprofit organization established by local governments and mayors in Hargeisa in February 2006. ALGASL's purpose aligns with the decentralization process, which seeks to shift authority, resources, responsibilities, and accountability from central to local governments. As the sole membership organization for local governments in Somaliland, ALGASL is dedicated to promoting democratic, participative local governance that is attuned to the needs and aspirations of Somaliland's residents.

ALGASL supports municipalities by facilitating capacity development, fostering closer collaboration among districts, and strengthening relationships with Somaliland's central government. The organization provides critical services to enhance the performance of local government institutions and their employees, ultimately working towards a harmonious and efficient governance structure across the region.

Mission

To build strong local governments in Somaliland through advocacy and lobbying, sharing knowledge, building capacity, forging partnerships, and effective integration in the nation, and to transform the association into a vibrant organization that effectively represents its members and contributes to improved service delivery.

Vision

Our vision is to unite local governments in Somaliland and provide them with a platform to meet and exchange experiences / best practices that can be replicated throughout the country as they work with society to promote the social and economic well-being of all citizens through democratic local governance.
